Meet your guide on the square next to the Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears), Reichstagufer 17, 10117 Berlin.
Description
Step into an immersive journey through Cold War Berlin and uncover a world of spies, surveillance, and resistance—where everyday life unfolded under constant watch.
Explore the reality of East Germany, a society shaped by control and conformity, and discover how the Stasi secret police created one of the most extensive surveillance systems in history. As you walk along the monumental Karl-Marx-Allee—built to project socialist power—you’ll see the striking contrast between state propaganda and the realities of daily life.
Visit the Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears), the former border crossing at Friedrichstraße station, where emotional farewells took place as families and friends were divided between East and West. Today, it stands as a powerful museum documenting the human stories behind the Berlin Wall and the realities of separation.
Stand at key historical sites, including the location of the 1953 workers’ uprising and Alexanderplatz, the symbolic heart of East Berlin, where mass demonstrations in 1989 helped bring about the fall of the regime.
You’ll also visit the East Side Gallery—the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall and the largest permanent open-air gallery in the world. Once a symbol of division, it now stands as a vibrant testament to freedom, protest, and survival.
Finishing Point
The tour concludes at the East Side Gallery.
